October
Adoption — The “Love” Exchange
Adoption is the avenue to improve the lives of dogs in our community. Equally important, however, adoption can offer you the rewards of a lifetime. Dogs are considered by many to be our most faithful and loving companions. According to one writer, “Dogs are our link to paradise.”
Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month is a nationally recognized campaign to encourage everyone to adopt their next canine from an animal shelter or rescue group. “Right now,” says the American Humane Association, “millions of loving dogs in every size and shape are waiting anxiously in local shelters for a home of their own.”

A letter from Phoebe:Hello to my friends at the Humane Society! It's Phoebe here, and I just LOVE my new home! I have lots of new friends here who take me for walks and play with me! This is the life! I'm starting to forget about that evil thing called the puppy mill, and my mom promises I'll be in my home forever! Thank you for taking care of me at the shelter and for finding me a great new home and family! [Note from “Mom”]: I just love Phoebe, and she is a wonderful little girl, and I can’t imagine life without her! |
We invite you to visit the Lawrence Humane Society (1805 E. 19th) and meet our many wonderful dogs waiting for homes of their own. View some of the many wonderful dogs we have available on our adoptable dogs page to see photos and learn about each animal's story.
We hope this October, or anytime during the year, you will join (and re-join!) the “love exchange” by giving a shelter dog a loving home and allowing him or her to fill your home with joy.
